ST. MARYS CHURCH |
|
Lent is
here and so are Lent Lunches...A simple meal of Soup and Bread, Cheese and
Fruit. Donations are going to two causes this year...Water Aid and the
much-needed Hydro Therapy Pool at St Rose's school in Stroud (HAVE I GOT
THE RIGHT NAME???) These lunches are on THURSDAYS from 12 o'clock...do come
along and meet old friends and make new ones. When Lent comes to an end, we
shall share the agape Supper; on Maundy Thursday...more information will be
in church, nearer the time. |
|
The Junior
Choir has ceased, with Gill Hatton taking a much-deserved retirement. If
there's anyone out there who can play a piano/keyboard and has the time,
energy and enthusiasm to take this on, please speak to one of us. The
Club...3 4 5 ...will continue at 3.45 on Thursdays in church, Viv and Rachel
will continue to have fun with the children. At the moment we're nursing 50
Anemone Bulbs, for Mothering Sunday! Sunday School on the 1st and 3rd
Sundays is happening in term time and the children start in the main service
and then go for their own time out before joining us again towards the end.
It's great to see the things Nicola (Moss) has them doing. As Easter
seems so close it's a stark reminder that time passes so swiftly. Spring
bulbs are showing their heads and the Snowdrops are beautiful..so... Spring
must be on the way. I trust you will be able to enjoy some brighter, warmer
weather very soon and we look forward to seeing you at any of our
'happenings' at Church or in St Mary's Room. With best wishes, Viv K. |

Stroud District
Council Core Strategy- proposed Housing Wickwar Road and Charfield Road |
|
The
Parish Council once again require information from you. We would like to find
out your views on future housing within the village. As housing is linked to
employment we would also like to find out where everyone travels to work.
Please complete the questionnaire and return to the Shop, Pub, Well Being
Centre or Village Hall. Full details
of the strategies can also be found in these places. The Gazette will be
running regular features on the proposed housing so further updates will be
available there. Stroud District
Council is holding an exhibition showing the plans for future housing within
the district on Saturday March 6th
at The Town Hall Wotton.
Please go along and view the information and question the Stroud District
Planners. The Parish Council is
holding a Public Meeting on Monday
March 8th in the Village
Hall at 7.15pm. Please come along and share your views with your
Councillors. It is important that you stay informed on this subject and take
action now. |
|
Grants - The Parish Council was delighted
to make grants to the following organisations, Woodend Scouts, The Grapevine,
The Village Hall and Kingswood Toddlers and Playgroup. These are all very
worthwhile organisations used by lots of the Villagers and deserve our
support. |
|
Continuing Works in The Village - The Parish Council is please to
announce that work has started on repairs to the wall surrounding Tubbs Turf.
This was much damaged and we were concerned that it may become unsafe
affecting the use of the Tubbs Turf Facilities. The Parish Council is also
pleased that the new tree on The Chipping has now been planted. This replaces
the one, which had to be removed as it had become diseased. |
|
Grit Bin - The new grit bin is now in place
on The Chipping, all we need now is for there to be grit in it! We are also intending to purchase a grit
bin for Nind Lane. In the recent bad weather residents found it impossible to
access their houses by car, as there was no grit supply. |
|
Village Hall - Pete Wilson, our Neighbourhood
Warden, has recently begun painting the guttering and roof tiles of the
Village Hall with anti-climb paint. Anyone now trying to climb on to the roof
will be covered in paint, which will be difficult to remove. |
|
Allotments - Please be patient a little
longer. The final details and
hopefully the go ahead have been promised for the end of February. If we have
managed to secure the land, the next stage will be to set up a management
committee and a working party to begin work on the new site. Please start
thinking about whether you want to be involved in this exciting project right
from the beginning. |

New Years Eve Senior Citizen Party
Photographs - Some
things are definitely worth the wait! For those of you who attended the party
in the Village Hall on New Years Eve, you would have seen a young gentleman
taking photographs of you. It was no one other than Iain Green (www.naturebygreen.com), a
professional wildlife photographer of some repute who lives in the village.
Iain has produced some exceptional photographs, which can now be viewed in a
folder in The Spar. If you would like a free
copy of one or more of the photographs, simply fill in the form at the
front of the folder and the KVA will deliver your A5 (5.8in x 8.3in) sized
colour photo. It’s a simple as that! |
|
KVA Showday on Saturday 4th September: Produce & Handicraft Schedule - It may seem a long way off, but the KVA have been busy preparing this years schedule, hoping to entice even more people to enter to top last years very successful show. The schedule is now ready for people to view in either The Spar or by visiting the Grapevine website (www.kingswoodgrapevine.supanet.com) and following the link. We will also be doing a drop around the village in the summer to jog your memory. So, as we’ve said before: Go on, have a look, a think, and enter a category or two, or three!! |
|

January and
February were very enjoyable meetings with two very different speakers. In January
we shared with Iain Green his enthusiasm and interest in Tigers with a lovely
slide show. With a complete change of subject, February saw many of our
members practicing “Belly Dancing” with Katalina Howell, great fun!! |
