If you are running a village event attracting up to 250 persons and need public liability insurance, the Association may be able to assist you at a very reasonable cost.  It also has a tent, which can be hired out for such occasions.

ST MARY'S PARISH CHURCH

We welcome Rod Alexander as our new Churchwarden and I think he's just beginning to realise what he's taken on! The PCC has one new member also, Sue Scothern. We're always glad to have new (won’t say younger) people to input to these important roles. The church is facing another potential mountain to climb as and when the roof is really examined ...it might be a job not completed in my lifetime, but the committee are on to it. The smaller projects are: to repaint the porch and install a sound system...these ARE manageable whilst I'm still young!! The Junior choir continues to sing and make merry... that's the reason for the rapid exit from school on Thursdays and the club (345) is gradually attracting new members too. We plan to let some helium balloons escape for Ascension Day...but not too many in case the Green party gets wind of it.... we want to symbolise the disappearance of something tangible to reflect the day Jesus went back to heaven... so, balloons it is. The adult choir is also growing and we've recently had two new Basses join... great sounds on Wednesday evenings too but not quite the merriment of junior choir as we oldies don't get biscuits and juice...although we did get some Belgian chocolates recently and some sweets...
The Fete will soon be upon us and you will hear more about that from David Hatton and his helpers. I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 6th June at  Amercombe...with good weather as usual!  Best wishes to you all and please continue to enjoy these Bank Holidays...Viv K

KINGSWOOD NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Neighbourhood Watch AGM: Voice your law and order concerns. Village Hall 7.00pm for 7.30pm Thursday 11th June.

Neighbourhood Watch Garden Party; 7.30pm, Friday 26th June in the lovely gardens of The Old Rectory (once The Boundary House). Three drinks and plenty of nibbles, all for £6.00. Tickets from your road’s Watch contact. If you are not sure who that is ring Rod Alexander on 843398.

A message from Gloucester C.I.D: A white male, 30, with Scottish accent has been taking names and addresses of church members (but not yet in Kingswood), visiting them, using the local priest’s name and conning victims with a hard luck story or even stealing money and credit cards. He is doing this all over the country where he has caught a number of victims but may not be in this county yet. If you have any information please phone the police on 0845 090 1234.

The Police Information Point is available in the Post Office should you wish to report any problem to be followed up.

KINGSWOOD PARISH COUNCIL

Kingswood Spring Clean   Wednesday 10th – Wednesday 17th June - The time has come around once again for the Annual Spring Clean. We have a lovely Village but at times it does need some attention. If everyone in the village could give up 10 minutes of their time to look around them and help pick up litter it would make a huge difference. If you are setting out for a walk with your dog take a bag and a litter picker and pick up some rubbish. Stand outside your house and look in the kerbs and hedges and pick up anything lying there. Bags, litter pickers and hi vis jackets available. Contact the clerk on 844659 or email kingswood.parish@btconnect.com or any Councillor to arrange collection of any of the above.

Planning Applications - Stroud District Council is making changes to how planning applications are dealt with and one of these changes involves speeding up the process. Currently all applications are reviewed in the Parish Council meeting held on the 2nd Monday of the month. Going forward the Parish Council’s Planning Committee will also meet on the 4th Monday of the month at 7.15 in the Abbey Rooms to view any applications which will not wait for the full meeting. A notice will be placed on the Notice Board advising you if the Council is meeting on the 4th Monday or not.

Amenities and Environment Committee

The Parish Council is responsible for many areas around the Village such as The Cemetery, The Playing field, open spaces such as Squalls Lake and the Ash Path, The Churchyard, the Chipping The Waterways and the Toilets. We are very lucky in this village to have Footpaths and Waterway Wardens to help monitor the footpath network and the waterways that run through the Village. The Parish Council has set up an Amenities and Environment Committee which will meet quarterly to discuss the management of the above areas. These meetings will be held in the school on the 15th June, 21st Sept, 21st Dec and 17th March at 7.15. The Wardens will be invited to make their reports at this meeting.  If you have any suggestions for making improvements to these areas please come along to the meetings.

Dinneywicks - See posters for details.

SENIOR CITIZENS lunch every Tuesday 12–1.30pm, 2 courses £4.95. New Tapas menu starts at the Dinneywicks including a special Tapas Lunch, something completely different. Saturday 6th June our Special D Day Party to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of D Day. Come in fancy dress and join the fun. Prizes for the Best Dressed Male and Female.

Kingswood Football Club

Congratulations to Kingswood Football Club whose first team, managed by Kingswood resident Ian Evans, have just gained promotion to the County League, a truly great achievement for a village team. The reserve team gained promotion 3 years running but this year just missed promotion to Div 1, Stroud League. The Under 14's also had a good season.
We would like to thank the following for their continued support: - Parish Council, Village Hall, Dinneywicks, Post Office and many other local companies and of course our supporters. Costs to run the club continue to rise, so why not have a go on our weekly lucky numbers draw, tickets £1, from Dinneywicks, Post Office or football members.

The Village Diary can be viewed on the Grapevine website. For an entry please email Grapevine or telephone Gill on 842734.
