Request to motorists using Hillesley Road down to Walkmill Lane

  • There is no footpath down this road. The speed limit is 20mph.There is often small children and Elderly Folk trying walk up and down the road. Most people I am sure consider this but if you knocked somebody down and killed or seriously injured them, how would you live with it, whether you adhere to the speed limit or not does it make any difference to your destination time?   Andrew Hill

News from Your Village Agent

Following last year’s success of “Full of Life” Event, Gloucestershire County Council and NHS Gloucestershire are pooling their efforts to arrange another bumper day of activities for older people, their families and carers from across the county. The event is planned to take place at Gloucester Rugby Club on Thursday 24 September 2009 between 1pm and 4pm.

The aim is to repeat last year’s successful formula when over 700 people attended the event. There is space for 50 exhibitors, alongside live demonstrations, fun activities and entertainment. There is a cookery demonstration booked, based on healthy eating for the over 60’s, and many agencies from across the county will be there to offer advice and information on a great many issues.

If you would like more information about this event or to discuss any other matters, please contact your Village Agent Richard Belliss on 07798 837582

Lottery scam.

Many of you will have heard of this one but, since it has just been attempted on one of our Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, you might like to be aware. You receive a letter from lawyers (in this case Spanish, though could be anywhere), saying you won the lottery in their country two years ago. Your address could not be found so the money has been invested and increased in value by 20%. Highly likely in the last two years! These lawyers have been given the job of finding you. If you can prove your identity the fortune will be yours. Of course, all they want is your identity and bank details. For further information please contact Rod Alexander on 843398, who will not ask for similar details!

Parish Plan             Please come along to the Parish Council Stand on Showday.

Thanks to everyone who filled out the original form. We now need further details from you to go forward and complete the plan. It is important for Kingswood to have a plan in place as increasingly any funding we apply for, is tied into this. No plan no funding!  There are also certain procedures we have to comply with such as a public consultation exercise. This will be carried out on Showday.

The Parish Plan questionnaire results will be on display on Showday.  We now need further details from you which should only take a few minutes of your time details such as;

You have indicated that you want improvements such as Village Hall, Playground? But what form would you like these to take? What would you like to see done about speeding in the Village? What needs to be completed to be a Fair Trade Village and is that what the village wants to do.

PLAY EQUIPMENT DESIGN - We will also have on display designs for the new play equipment. Three companies have designed a new play space. We would like your comments and your help in deciding which equipment to have.

DESIGN A VILLAGE LOGO - The Parish Council is looking for a logo to appear on all its communication and web site. The image we believe that best reflects the village is the Abbey Gateway. The Parish Council would like to ask all you budding artists out there to put forward a design.

The following conditions apply.  Two copies to be supplied one colour and one black and white. The image should be able to be reproduced in greyscale when photocopied. The image to be 10x7½ cms (4x3 inches).

The image will become the property of Kingswood Parish Council for them to use in all methods of communication.

We would like to display the images on Showday and get peoples comments on which one we should adopt. Please send to The Clerk, New Rose Cottage, Chapel Lane, Hillesley GL12 7RQ or email to kingswood.parish@btconnect.com.

Work In progress - The Parish Council has started work on some of the village owned areas. The War Memorial is under-going a much needed restoration and should soon be restored to its former glory. The toilets are set to get a lick of paint and replacement windows. At the playing field we are painting the barriers in hazard colours and repainting the bollards. The swings and the flying fox will also come in for a make over.

MUSIC AT ST MARY'S - Saturday 19 September

Our next concert features Passacaglia, one of Britain's best-loved baroque chamber ensembles.  For many years the group has enjoyed a reputation for its engaging and charismatic performances, featuring the unique sound of recorders, flutes, viola da gamba and harpsichord. They have received particular acclaim for their interpretations of early French repertoire (their two latest CD's both got rave notices), as well as the enduringly popular music of Handel and Telemann. There is strong local interest in this concert because Robin Bigwood, the harpsichord player in Passacaglia is one of Kingswood Primary School's most distinguished former pupils. His harpsichord recital, twelve years ago, was the second-ever concert in our Music at St Mary's series.

Tickets from David Hatton, 5 Wotton Road, (tel 842483).  To avoid disappointment, do buy your tickets now as our concerts are often sold out.

Dog Fouling

Residents at the Bramley Flats are very angry about the constant dog fouling on the grassed areas belonging to the flats owners on either side of the flats. The 'alleyway' that runs from Bramley Close to Golden Lane is a busy public footpath and is used all day by villagers and schoolchildren. Some dog walkers in the village seem to think it is a public area and therefore OK to allow their dogs to leave ‘things’ behind to be stepped in/on. Dogs are also allowed to roam free in the graveyard and again their mess is left behind because the owners can’t be bothered to pick it up.

Please be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your dog!

You know who you are and so do we!

The Village Diary can be viewed on the Grapevine website. For an entry please email Grapevine or telephone Gill on 842734.
