A message from Viv Kerner

On reading the last copy of the 'Grapevine' I was delighted to read of my welcome as the new priest for Kingswood (and Charfield). I've moved down from Hardwicke, where we had no water other than rain, and have been inundated by family, older (mother) and younger, as they wanted to wash!!. I have also met several members of the Kingswood PCC and enjoyed a social evening trying to learn new names and faces. That's only the tip of the iceberg; of course, as there are many hundreds of you still to meet. I'm looking forward to my Licensing at St Mary's and hope to be out and about to meet you soon after that. If you see a 'dog collar' on a Gladys Emanuel type bike, then do stop me and say hello. If you're passing The Rectory, do call in and introduce yourselves. Best wishes, Viv Kerner.

Tubbs Turf News

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us on Finals Day in July – we struck lucky with the weather and had a rare hot & sunny day, fantastic tennis matches to watch (well done all those who played), a competitive table tennis tournament, and a fun and very large mixed netball match. It was great to see so many people from the village enjoying themselves whilst either playing or watching during the afternoon. We were very happy to have raised around £600 from the event. Special thanks to Geoff Mansbridge who patiently organised all the tennis events.

The committee are delighted that we have at last been able to improve the facilities by removing the boards from the top multisports court and replacing them with fencing. We are hoping this measure will reduce the noise level at the courts, and we think it has also made the whole area more open and visible for onlookers to enjoy the gardens.

KINGSWOOD VILLAGE HALL

The mindless vandalism continues…. Windows, doors, in fact anything that is within sight is being systematically destroyed. We do however look forward to Showday if the fabric of the building lasts that long! The enthusiasm of the ‘Repair Team’ is gradually waning because of the continuous plague of wilful destruction by a minority of individuals.

The repairs are costly and time consuming and prevent improvements.

It is your facility, so please help us protect it, both for now and future generations. If you see or hear anything suspicious please report it at the Police Information Point.

Most recently, apart from broken windows, there has been a spate of firework incidents.

Improper use of these incendiary devices is not a particularly clever or safe exercise for either the participants or the recipients of the consequent damage.

The Village Diary can be viewed on the Grapevine website. For an entry please email Grapevine or telephone Gill on 842734.
