More Anti-social Behaviour |
|
Sadly there have been several instances recently of
young boys on bikes in the village throwing fruit and eggs at houses,
particularly down the High Street. The police have been informed and
are very interested in finding out more. As this usually takes place
after dark and the boys have no lights on their bikes there is the added
risk of them being hit by cars on the busy Rectory Road. Parents take note. |

VILLAGE APPRAISAL |
|
Village
Appraisal progress report. Good progress is being made towards the Village
Appraisal, in which all household members from the age of 11 upwards will be
able to give their views on a wide range of issues, which will affect
the village over the next decade. There will also be a special questionnaire
for businesses. Both sets of questions are almost set. We will ask Glos.
Rural Community Council to advise on the format before printing and distributing. For
the distribution to and collection from each household we will need as many
volunteers as possible. As usual, Kingswood has been quick to respond but
more would be welcome. Distribution to about 25 houses for each volunteer
should take no more than two hours and need not be done all at once. If you
can help please phone Rod Alexander on 843398. If you are running a
business, which may not be all that visible (e.g. from home) and would like
a Business Questionnaire please contact either Rod or Pat Harty
(844016). |

Lower Woods |
|
Autumn
in Lower Woods is truly one of the best times to visit: the autumn colours,
the rutting deer, the ripening berries, the exhilarating feeling of breathing
in the cold air and heady perfume of decaying leaves, the magic of being in
the woods as the light fades, and not forgetting the infamous mud. It is also
the best time of the year to get to know two easily overlooked sides of the
Wood’s wildlife: its fungi and trees. |
|
On Saturday
27th October at 10.30am (meet 10.15) we have a Fungus
Foray with local expert David Shorten of the Cotswold Fungus Group.
Whether you are interested in cooking wild mushrooms or simply learning about
these fascinating organisms, then do come along (with a basket if you like).
However pre-booking is essential as places are limited – please
call the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust on 01452 383333 to reserve your
place. |
|
Then
on Sunday 28th October at 2pm come and meet the Remarkable
Trees of Lower Woods: a walk around this ancient landscape to learn about
its rare tree species, its unusual varieties, majestic veterans, woodland
characters and management history, and perhaps take part in a bit of ‘leaf
peeping’. |
|
Both
events are free, and meet at Lower Woods Lodge, Inglestone Common (ST
747882). Please bring wet weather gear and walking boots/wellies as in autumn
the woods can be a bit muddy! Children welcome. Dogs must be under
control.” |

KINGSWOOD Guide Pack |
|
Our new term has begun with a smaller unit than usual. We
are currently enjoying a Go For It called "Passion for Fashion" and
after half term will be working for two badges with Christmas in mind: Party
Planner and Crafts. We are also going to another Guide event at
@Bristol this term. |
|
Our need for additional regular help is now urgent.
If you can help, or would like more information, please contact the Unit
Guider, Susan Scothern on 845554, email scothernfamily@btinternet.com. |
Could you be a foster carer?
|
|
Fostering is the care at home of a child or young person
who is unable to stay with their natural family. These children come from
different backgrounds so carers are needed from all sections of the community
to ensure the best ‘match’ between carer and child. Children in care may have
learning or physical disabilities, or perhaps have suffered trauma, abuse or
neglect. Sometimes brothers and sisters want to stay together as a sibling
group, which some carers are able to take on. Woodside Fostercare strives to
help them develop into adults who can lead happy and fulfilling lives,
catering for a variety of needs, and seeks to help them overcome their
difficulties, using appropriate therapies wherever needed. |
|
Carers can be male or female,
married or single. The main requirements are experience with children, time,
commitment and a spare room. Applicants are thoroughly checked, but once
selected, are trained to nationally recognised qualifications, have 24-hour
support and receive a professional fee. |
