KINGSWOOD VILLAGE ASSOCIATION

A date for your 2010 diary.  Having successfully revitalized the village GADABOUT SUPPER in the past couple of years, we are delighted to announce that the next one will take place on SATURDAY 20TH MARCH.  Paperwork will be distributed in the New Year.  If you have been involved before, you'll know what a lot of fun it is.  If not, do keep the date available and give it a try next year.

LOST CAMERA WITH LOTS OF MEMORIES

Please if anyone has found or knows of a camera being found after the Hillesley Ball on September 12 could they contact Sally-Anne Barnes – 01453 843069 or e-mail sabsmb@tiscali.co.uk? It contains many memories including a friend’s wedding and my daughter’s first day at KLB. It is a Kodak Easy Share digital camera in a plain black case and has a 1 Gb SD card in it. I would be really grateful to know if anyone has found it. The memories are irreplaceable.

KINGSWOOD KURRY KLUB,

Saturday November 28th. Tickets (£15) went on sale on September 15, as promised in the last Grapevine. By the same evening over 40 had been sold. Hopefully there will still be some left by the time you read this. Ring Rod Alexander on 843398 or email to rodplume@googlemail.com.

KSA & KVA Hallowe’en Party – Saturday 31st October

A chance to come and have some fun on the last weekend of half term and dress-up for some Hallowe’en games and ghoulish activities. Come along to the village hall where a professional entertainer will be in action. There will be prizes for the best Hallowe’en costume and for the best pumpkin lanterns. To ensure all have a ‘witch-tastic’ time, but don’t get too ‘spooked’, there will be two sessions: (12.30 - 2.15pm Infants: Reception - Year 2;   1.30 - 3.15pm Juniors: Years 3 - 6)

Please note this event is available to all children in these year groups living in Kingswood or attending Kingswood Primary School. We would love to see you all there. Entry is free (with a small donation of a plate of food e.g. cakes, sandwiches, fruit, to be arranged nearer the time); please contact Sally-Anne Barnes 01453 843069 or e-mail sabsmb@tiscali.co.uk if your children would like to attend. This event has been kindly funded by the KVA.

KINGSWOOD ABBEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Our meeting this month was very interesting with a talk by Jenny Earl. As a former worker at Slimbridge Trust she gave a very informative talk on swans, particularly the Bewick’s, so hopefully we can all now recocognise the different species.

13th October meeting is our Birthday Evening, 10th November - A.G.M, 8th December - Christmas Evening.

If you enjoy reading and would like to join us please ‘phone Claire on 01453 842699. Our next meeting is on Thursday October 8th at 8pm.

KINGSWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB

Congratulations to Kingswood Football Club's first team, who, under the leadership of local resident, Ian Evans, had their first home game in the Glos County League and beat the current leaders 3 – 1. Any players wishing to join can just turn up for training on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, Kingswood playing field. We also run a reserve team, currently in Stroud League Division 2 and also an Under 15 team.

To help finance the club, we run a weekly lottery. Forms are available at Dinneywicks and Post Office, price £1, enter your 3 lucky numbers and the draw takes place every Saturday at approx 6pm in the Dinneywicks.

KINGSWOOD JUBILEE CLUB

PARISH COUNCIL

PARISH PLAN - Thank you to everyone who came across to the Parish Plan Tent. We had 107 recorded visitors who took the time to answer our questions. That equates to approximately 10% of the village so is a great result. We plan to work on the details of this and put the plan together in time for the Annual Parish Meeting, which normally takes place in April. I will let you know further details nearer the time, as we hope many of you will come along to this event. Meanwhile there are many issues that have been raised in the questionnaire and at the consultation that we can begin to tackle, such as dog fouling, speeding, and provision of youth activities.

PLAY EQUIPMENT DESIGN - Thank you all for looking at the designs for the new play equipment. One Company came out in front, which is Miracle.  We are currently putting together a working party to work on the final design and to work on this project from design to implementation. It is important that this is a community project and involves members of the community at all stages and includes teenagers and children. This cross section of the Community will be vital to the success of this project. This group would be responsible for looking at and deciding on a final design to bring to Parish Council for a decision.

The group should ensure that the equipment is fully representative of all age groups.

The group should ensure that the issue of involvement of the Community has been addressed.

The group to ensure that security issues involving the playing field have been addressed and a plan put into place.

The group to discuss a procedure for maintenance of the equipment and for risk assessment checks of the equipment to be carried out.

I have some volunteers already for this project but would love to have more, especially teenagers and older members of the community. Please contact the clerk Mary Leonard on 01453 844659 or email - kingswood.parish@btconnect.com to express an interest and find out more details.

Dog Fouling - It is evident that this issue is causing a lot of concern in the Community. The Parish Council debated this issue at the last meeting and has decided to adopt a policy of zero tolerance on this issue. Stroud District Council have adopted the Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996. This makes it an offence if dog owners do not clean up after their dog when they foul anywhere to which the public has access. Offending owners risk prosecution with a maximum fine of £1000. The solution to this problem is in the hand of the community. Firstly, all dog owners to observe the law, and if that does not happen then as a community we need to report those who are breaking this law. The dog wardens and the Neighbourhood Warden will be stepping up their patrols and will instigate action against any one caught. Please pass on any information you have to Alex Davies, Animal Welfare Officer on 01453 754497 or to Natasha Anderson (Dog Warden) 01453 754491

Flower Beds on the Chipping - The Parish Council is looking for a green-fingered member of the community to plant and maintain the flowerbeds. These can look spectacular, but in the last year were not so good.  I am sure we have someone in the Village who could make them look stunning again. Please contact the clerk, Mary Leonard, on 01453 844659 or email her at kingswood.parish@btconnect.com to express an interest and find out more details.

Speeding on Wickwar Road – Mr N. Ward is representing the Parish Council at ‘A Safer Communities’ meeting where this issue is on the agenda. Please let him or the Clerk know of any concerns that you may have.
