GADABOUT’S BACK
- After a
couple of year’s absence from the Kingswood Social Calendar, the Kingswood
Village Association is pleased to announce the return of Gadabout. Previous
Gadabouts, Fellowship Suppers and Neighbourhood Noshes are fondly remembered
and have raised much-needed funds for the Village Hall. For those who have
not taken part before or who are new to the village, the evening has always
consisted of four separate, but equally enjoyable, parts: |
|
1. The
Meeting Venue – The Village Hall (where else?) |
|
2. The
Starter Course
|
|
3. The Main
Course |
|
4. The Final
Venue – Back to the Hall for Puds, Coffee and the Bar. |
|
The date
for Gadabout 2008 is October 18th, so put it in your
diaries and await further instructions!!!! For further information, please
contact Angus or Fran McCubbin on 01453 844274. |

KINGSWOOD PLAYGROUP |
|
Kingswood Village Playgroup would like to thank everyone who came along
and helped to celebrate their 40th 'birthday' on Friday and Saturday May
9-10. Around 50 children came to the disco on Friday and 40 to the Tea Party on
Saturday. The children at the Tea Party enjoyed a magic show and, thanks to
Liz Beckett, a slice of specially baked birthday cake. Thanks too to Ian Green;
who was question master for the quiz on Saturday evening and all those who
lent photos for the display. Committee chair Bekki Pacini said: "We're
really grateful to everyone who supported the events. Our real aim was to
give something back to the village which has supported playgroup for the past
40 years." |

ST MARY'S PARISH CHURCH |
|
At St. Mary's
we're enjoying the space the new room has offered us. It's being used
already, even without the carpet, for various events. We've had some
'domestic' meetings in there and an evening when our Benefactors were able to
come along and see the fruits of our work and their giving. This was
successful as was the Coffee Morning shortly after that. The Archdeacon is
visiting the parishes of Charfield and Kingswood in July, on 25th,
and at lunchtime we will have a bring and share event when he will dedicate
the room. Please come along and be a part of that shared time. In June
we see the start of a series of weekly drop-in Coffee Mornings from 8.45
until 10.00 aimed firstly at those taking children to school, but all are
welcome. We hope to start a Sunday School/Club in the room on 2 Sundays
a month, during the service. If you have children interested or would
like to help us with this, speak to Viv or one of the L.M.T. (Bob, David,
Gill and Peter). |
|
I went to
a meeting of a Charity group recently and discovered that there is some money
available under certain conditions. Whilst the charity cannot fund
everything, there are some funds available to Kingswood people for help
with certain things. The charity doesn't advertise this but if
you had a word in my ear, I could always pass the details on to those who are
in a position to make these decisions. Either phone me (01454 261751) or drop
me a note to The Rectory, 36, Wotton Road, Charfield GL12 8TG. or leave a
message in church for me. I'll do what I can! The Kingswood fete is
almost upon us and this was the first event I came to last year, even before
I was the 'vicar'. I look forward to another successful and interesting
event. I also went recently to a Cricket match. It was a cold and rainy
afternoon but those players there were staunch followers of bat and ball.
Sadly 'we' lost by one run.... I think it was only one... but the tea was
spectacular! I shall be coming to watch more matches when the sun shines!! If
you have any issues you would like me to deal with or just know about, please
let me know. Best wishes to all doing exams, to those going on holiday, and
to those who stay behind, may we have some good days. Viv K. |

The St
Mary’s Room is now available for Community use – for details please contact
David Roe, Treasurer (843199). |
|

so next season go up to division 2 and they also completed the 'Double' by
winning the Intermediate Cup. The under 13's did well by reaching 3rd in

|
Old London Road Nature Reserve - special
open day on Sunday the 22nd of June, from 11am! |
|
A flower
on the Edge, on your doorstep…Following a year long project funded by the Big
Lottery Fund and the BBC Breathing Place’s campaign, Gloucestershire Wildlife
Trust is inviting residents of the Wotton-under-Edge area to come and see
what has been happening at its Old London Road nature reserve (alongside the
Conygres Scout Hut). |
|
The
nature reserve and the surrounding woodland is one of
only two places in Britain where it is possible to see the rare Limestone
Woundwort plant, and now is the time to see it in flower! Visitors to
the Open Day on Sunday 22nd June from 11am will be able to
meet the plant, learn about the management that local volunteers have been
doing to preserve it, and see the other work that we have been doing at the
site – the laid hedge, the new leaflet, the pond, and the bench specially
designed and built by students at Katherine Lady Berkeley’s School. |
|
Afterwards
county plant experts will be leading a guided wildflower walk to North Nibley
monument (places on the walk are limited so we ask that people book on 01452
383333). |
|
For those
not wanting to walk so far there will be a family nature ramble in and around
the reserve for budding explorers – looking for bugs,
small mammals, butterflies and other creatures. We hope to see you there! |
