Attention All Dog
Owners |
|
Kingswood
Playgroup recently went for a walk to feed the ducks – normally a very
pleasant experience, but not this time. The children aged between 2-4 had to
spend the whole time looking at the ground and calling out if they spotted
any dog mess. Is this the experience we want to give our young children,
where dog mess is the norm? What are we teaching them? As anyone knows
cleaning dog mess off one pair of shoes is bad enough, but try 20!! |
|
Please, please, please lead by example and pick up your
dog’s mess. |
KINGSWOOD NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
|
|
Kingswood Neighbourhood Watch will be holding its Annual
Party on Friday 13th July at 7.30pm. Janet and Terry are kindly
letting us use their lovely garden at The Boundary House. There will be three
complementary drinks plus nibbles for the unchanged ticket price of £5.00. We
hope you will come, not just because this is the only fundraiser for this
otherwise free service, but also a very enjoyable evening. Tickets are available from any of your
Neighbourhood Watch reps. |
|
The Police Information
Point is available in the Post Office should you wish to report any
problem to be followed up. |
KSA Summer Fayre and Duck Race
|
|
We would like to invite everyone to our School
Summer Fayre on Saturday 7th July. It will start with the
annual duck race at 11.00am at the Ash Path and continue into the school
playground for fun and entertainment. There will also be a bar, B-B-Q and
cream teas for those in need of refreshment. If you would like to buy a
duck to take part in our “go like the quackers” or “The flying duckman”
races, please contact the school office or Shaenna on 520371. |
Treatment for Tanzania
|
|
Another huge thank you for your continued support of our
work in Tanzania. In the last 18 months we have raised £32,200 for the work –
including buying 2 Landrovers, and 5 of our team having gone over to work,
with another 3 planned for later in the year. |
|
On Saturday 4th August a number of our
team are working for free to raise further funds. If you would like a
Saturday appointment, please call us on 844646 or visit
www.chippingmanor.co.uk
whether you are a registered patient or would like to be!! |
KINGSWOOD 2007 VILLAGE APPRAISAL
|
|
The village’s highly representative (83% response) 1997
Village Appraisal will be repeated this year. A questionnaire will be
delivered to all houses, asking the views of all villagers, of the age of
eleven and above, on a wide range of issues. Many of the 1997 questions are
still important. Others will be added. The questionnaires are being prepared
now and will be sent out later this year. We will need volunteers for
delivery and collection, each of which will take about two hours and need not
be done all at once. If you are able to help with delivery and collection
please contact Rod Alexander (843398) or Pat Harty (844016). Rod also has a
few copies of the attractive, collectable and relevant 1997 Appraisal for
just a £2 donation to the cost of this year’s Appraisal. |
|
There will be a separate Appraisal for businesses. If you
run a business from home we might not know. However small your business, if
you want your views included please ring Rod or Pat and they will see you get
a copy of the Business Questionnaire. |
|

|
Besides general shop duties you
will be required to carry out end of day procedures for the tills and
National Lottery as well as locking up the store. For further details please
contact Clare or Sue either in the shop or ring 845086. |
|
Family
Visit |
|
The
Adams family, previously of 7 Somerset Close, are coming back to visit the
village three years after emigrating to Canada. They will be staying with
Karen's sister in Wickwar from 17 July until 7 August. They say they
are looking forward to meeting all their old friends and neighbours and
you can expect to see them around the village and in Wotton. If you want to
make contact before or during their visit then you can email Douglas at douglasncadams@yahoo.ca If you catch them in the Dinneywicks, Douglas even says
he'll buy you a pint - maybe Canada is rubbing off on a tight Scotsman. |

ST MARY'S PARISH CHURCH Churchwardens; Josie Eldridge
(844187) and Rob Rayfield (842302). |
|
We are delighted to announce that the Rev. Vivienne Kerner
is to be the new priest for the Benefice of Charfield and Kingswood. Viv, as she likes to be known, is
currently Non-Stipendiary Minister in Hardwick, Elmore and Longney, where she
has been a very popular and effective presence in those communities. She and her husband, Steve, will move into
the rectory at Charfield during August.
She will be licensed by the Archdeacon of Gloucester at 4pm on
September 9th, here in St Mary’s. |
|
Many thanks to everyone who gave such wonderful support to
the St Mary’s Garden Fete on June 16th. After some very unsettled weather, some of the worst of it on
the morning, we were once again blessed with beautiful sunshine when it
mattered most. As a result of a
really big turnout we raised a massive £2,500 towards the costs of keeping a
working, living church, here in our village. |

KINGSWOOD JUBILEE CLUB
|
|
The club held their 30th Anniversary party last
month in the village hall. We were very pleased to have two original members,
Mrs Freda Thornton and Mrs Emily Crewe, to cut the Celebration cake, 54 other
members and Mr Fizz then magically entertained guests. Snippets of minutes
from 1977-2007 were read, bringing smiles and memories to some members. Many
thanks go to the committee members for their hard work that day; also to club
members for your support, generosity and friendship in keeping the club
going. A marvellous achievement, long may it continue. Why not “Join” us or
be a “guest”, fortnightly, Wednesday afternoons 2-4pm. |
